Welcome to Year 2!
Year 2 – Admiral Class
Mrs Penny – Teacher
Miss Osborne – Teaching Assistant
Mrs Cubberley - Teaching Assistant
We are Year 2 and love learning by exploring, engaging and having fun! We love reading all sorts of books in our class and have the best time acting these out to help with our writing. We have been learning our 2, 5 & 10 times tables and love using different songs and actions to help reinforce our learning.
Our topic for this term is The Great Fire of London.
Our books this term are: Little Red and the very hungry lion and The Man on the Moon.
Reading
Each week your child will bring home a new reading book from the Little Wandle phonics scheme. Please read with your child regularly (ideally at least 3 times a week) even if your child is a fluent reader and support him/her by asking questions to deepen their understanding of the text.
Little Wandle Letters and Sound
The resources on this page will help you support your child with saying their sounds and writing their letters. There are also some useful videos so you can see how they are taught at school and feel confident about supporting their reading at home.
Spellings
Spellings will be given out each week for your child to practice at home. They may include common exceptions words from year 1 and 2 or may focus on spelling patterns and rules.
Maths
In maths we cover a wide range of topics. Some of the key topics include place value, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division along with many others. Regular practice of number bonds to 5, 10 and 20 are key foundations which will help when building on our learning. There is a link below where place value and other key topics can be practiced. By the end of year 2 children are expected to have rapid recall of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables.
